Remembering Patty

The Search

I wasn’t sure of what to post as art for this piece. In the end, I decided to use a whimsical little drawing of mine which I colored with watercolors during this trip. It has a bit of the flavor of a Chinese magical creature, which is appropriate to the moment’s atmosphere and geography… I am currently in Suzhou.

There are currently a number of oddball, in-the-moment drawings of this kind waiting for me to get my act together and color them.

warmly,

Lee

Transcript:

Another episode in my solo episodes of the Idiots and Fools podcast, this time in the early morning from my hotel room in Suzhou, China.

Every morning here, very early, as the light dawns, the birds sing, especially the doves.
And every time I hear doves in the morning— really anytime I hear them, but most especially in the morning—they strike a note in the depths of my soul.

There's something about them that reminds me of life, of mortality and beauty, of things that can be attended to, but never touched, lest they be ruined by the hand and mind of man.

On this trip, my teacher Patty Yosa died, and I'm surrounded by beautiful fragments of lives that have been lived both during and before my life.

Mr. Gurdjieff's calling card on the desk with me. One of the original cards from when he lived at Rue du Colonel Renard in Paris.

Tibetan Buddhist statues.

A small mat of scrap fabrics made by a friend.

I've had occasion to think during this trip about the way that we are here to help gather and appreciate love and beauty unto us so that we can help them to manifest and be preserved throughout this world as worthy. And I've noticed on this trip
that everything is whole,
That there is really only one life, one being, one truth, one love and one beauty which multiplies itself throughout eternity in an endless number of ways.
