Talking of magic Isabelle Stengers book 'Hypnosis Between Science and Magic' will be published in Translation later this year (first published in 2002).
I was talking about it in relation to Gurdjieff earlier today...
In fact Stengers has another interesting bk 'Capitalist Sorcery' which I also recommend. I translated her 'Power and Invention: situating science' many years ago.
She was impressed by Starhawk, the 'neo-pagan witch'...
Joy and celebration yes...didn't get a sense of that in the foundation...
And then there is Spinoza's question 'how can there be joy in a world of suffering.'
