Christmas of the Soul

This year's Christmas song.
It’s Christmas once again
Unless I’m mistaken
There's no room at the Marriot
Every room is taken
And outside the lights are bright
And the decorations sing
Of inflated angels
With plastic wings

It might be the season
It might be the news
Maybe it’s all the stuff for sale
That breeds the blues
But I got that Christmas spirit
A fire in the soul
A star that comes in the dark of night
To illuminate us all

When you wake up at three am
Breathing in the dark
Can you remember
The way the story starts?

I thought this was all about
Matters of the soul.
But it turns out I lost that part
Somewhere at the mall
And now I’m just standing here
Looking up at the sky
For the trail of a big red sleigh
From the corner of my eye

And I hope you send us letter
From wherever you went
To remind us that our lives
Are heaven sent
And I hope it’s sealed
With the blood you spilled
And I hope that they deliver it
In the cup you filled

It might be the carols
Or maybe it’s the hymns
That remind me of the passion
That paid for everybody’s sins
 I got that Christmas spirit
A fire in the soul
A star that comes in the dark of night
To illuminate us all

And I hope you send us letter
From wherever you went
To remind us that our lives
Are heaven sent
And I hope it’s sealed
With the blood you spilled
And I hope that they deliver it
In the cup you filled
