Finished it today after all, although there may be a few rough edges.
Calling to Jesus
Just last Christmas
I remember the way it was
When the children still believed
In Santa Claus
And there was snow
Instead of all this rain
And when people said goodbye
You knew they’d be coming back again
Now I’m pulling a number
For a place in the line
That brings me back to the moment
When the light began to shine
And we decorated mangers
Lay baby Jesus down
Lined up the three wise men
Bearing gifts and wearing crowns
And we sang the Christmas carols
About a great big star in the sky
That will lead us all to a place somewhere
Where no one will ever die
Now I’m pulling a number
For a place in the line
That brings me back to that sacred moment
When the star began to shine
And I’m calling to Jesus
Please pick up the phone
‘Cause you know how it feels
To be down here all alone
And here comes Christmas
Aimin’ right between the eyes
Rollin’ in on the midnight train
Filled with toys and the next surprise
And the angels have brighter lights
Than they did the year before
And the music is even louder
In the aisles of the big box stores
And I’m singing a prayer
From 1965
When the music was so much sweeter
And we all still felt alive
And I’m calling to Jesus
Please pick up the phone
‘Cause you know how it feels
To be down here all alone
Words, music & all performances
