Photo: Fountain, Bryant Park. When I go into the city, I make a point of walking by this fountain every morning. It's surrounded by all kinds of crap, but if one takes a moment, one can always find a flattering angle to take a photograph from. At this time of year, the sun is barely rising when I get in at 8 AM. This shot is taken looking east, towards the sunrise.

October 20.

Thoughts for the soliloquy today are based on notes over the past week.

If thought isn't inwardly shaped and formed by sensation, the results will make it obvious to the discerning person. Watch carefully for this.

There are times when one encounters situations in life where one clearly sees that everything Gurdjieff said about buffers is true; that human beings are asleep and have almost no clue whatsoever about how they are behaving, what they are doing, what they are saying. Even supposedly rational people engage in strange outbursts of negativity that can't be explained using any reasonable thoughts.

I suppose we shouldn't be surprised. We’re all peculiar creatures and enslaved, for the most part, by our egos. It's only if we develop an inner gravity, a stronger solar magnetism, within ourselves, that our sensation begins to become more alive and glues us together.

I need to locate my being within sensation, firmly seated, and allow what takes place to enter. I need to help create an inner continuity. I may think that there are alternatives to this and other paths, but it isn't true. Only an organic and cosmological sensation of my being can serve as the foundation for a real continuity of consciousness within myself that leads to a clear seeing of myself, my behaviors, and my actions. Even then, it takes many, many years to gather enough data to see one's self in a deeper and more precise light.
