Hell is empty. All the devils are here.

—Willam Shakespeare

The word "evangelism” arrives in our language via the Greek euangelos, meaning, "to bring forth good news."

I find myself late in life cast in the role of evangelist; not a role I sought or asked for, but one which found me. For in the midst of this planet, which seems filled with disagreement and terror, there is good news to be had. It may not be the news of man; for man produces little good news of his own and instead strangely seems to love the bad he brings.

Yet this planet is a wonderful place filled with joy and goodness, which prevails in all things in spite of the difficulties that creation itself presents both to its creatures and to the Lord who made it.

I have decided, more and more, to simply embrace this role, which I did not ask for, but was given. And I will do so from the heart and as simply as possible and continue to do so not for any agenda, but because it has been asked of me and is my duty.

This morning, I understood some things about the perception of the soul, which I have been involved with on various levels, some of them intimate and deep, for many years, and it occurs to me that folk might wish know of these things from a modern man, rather than from classic sources like the incomparable Meister Eckhart, who perhaps knew the good news at greater depth than any. And so I shall write about this matter this morning and perhaps on other mornings, until what I have seen and understood is available to others.

Why is this important? It is important because men and women do not just forget themselves and fall asleep, as Gurdjieff put it. No, they forget even God; and this is a grave error. For when you forget, God, the devils find you.

Devils are crafty things and actually quite weak, especially in the realms of heaven, where they dwell in the darkness and the corners. It is here in the material world that they find their strength, and are eager to inhabit men and women in order to be something, anything; for they find it so difficult to be anything at all in the light of heaven, where they wither. Here they can put flesh on their bones and it is why there is so much bad in the world.

Anyway, let's not dwell on this today, but move forward on the question at hand.

The Perception of the Soul

Our sensation would be lost with grace.
