Silence—Element 16

It is said that all of creation as it exists is ultimately born from silence.

The Angels and Daemons disagree on this, however; for while the Angels insist on Silence as the original source, the Daemons insist it is the single note OM. There are adherents of both schools on the lower levels and a great deal of energy is put into whichever version of creation prevails in that time and location.

Silence is found throughout the cosmos; in fact it is one of the most abundant elements, rendering it inexpensive by most standards. It can be collected anywhere that noise ceases or atmosphere to transmit it fails; yet creation is strangely attracted to noise and attempts to vanquish silence wherever it’s found. Daemons in particular have little or no respect for it and pay no attention to preserving it.

Angels, on the other hand, value it greatly despite its relative abundance. They collect it in groups and hold it in reserve against the great noises that occur, for example, when suns explode. A great deal of Silence is needed to quell such uproar. In addition, Angels use silence for most ceremonies and formal religious services, employing it as a musical element between notes.
