“…if, for instance, a man begins to feel the life of the planets, or if his consciousness passes to the level of the planetary world, he begins at the same time to feel the life of atoms…

G. I Gurdjieff, as quoted in In Search of the Miraculous, P. 207

The presence of consciousness plays a determinant role in the creation of what we call reality.

This is one of the basic premises of quantum theory: everything is probabilistic, indeterminate, and unresolved until the observer enters.

In this sense, Gurdjieff's practice of self observation is by default, a quantum practice, because it places the observer at the root of awareness, which is exactly where it needs to be in order to resolve quantum uncertainty.

That may sound complicated, but what it means is, as we observe ourselves, so do we create the cosmos. This is actually true of the physical matter that surrounds us, all of which arises from the quantum state as a resolved probability (probability which has taken a step past the statistical likelihood of an event into its definite existence.)

Yet it is also true of our own being, which only actually begins to exist when we observe it. Until we take that step into attention and awareness, everything that happens within us is unresolved and uncertain. Our awareness, according to its acuity, quality, and concentration, is what determines our Being.
