Whenever it’s not clear what ought to pop out of the pen onto paper, a clown pops out. Circuses need bazillions of clowns so they’re perhaps the most abundant resource in the pen. Clowns fit into pens the same way they fit into taxis—by the dozens— and it is my job to liberate them.
